Harmony A3 Setup Guide

Connect one source. Play it through your powered speakers.

Follow four steps to connect the Harmony A3 transmitter and three AuraLink receivers.

Step 01 · Power

Connect power

Power Harmony A3 transmitter before connecting an audio source.

TaskTurn on the transmitter.

Connect and switch on

  1. Connect the transmitter to power with a USB-C cable and power adapter.
  2. Switch the transmitter to ON.

Choose your audio source

Choose your device to open Step 3 — connection settings.

Step 03 · TV / Media Device

Connect Optical

TaskConnect Optical Out and set the TV audio format to PCM.

  1. Press AUX/OPT on the transmitter to select OPT input.OPT indicator: blinking red.
  2. Remove the clear caps from both ends of the optical cable.
  3. Connect Optical Out on the TV/source to Optical on the transmitter.
  4. On the TV/source, select Optical output and set the format to PCM.

If notPort: use Optical Out, not In.Format: select PCM. Avoid Dolby, DTS, Bitstream, or Auto.

Step 03 · Mixer / AV System

Connect analog audio

TaskMatch the mixer output to the correct cable.

Choose the correct output and cable. The wrong cable may cause low volume, missing vocals, or poor sound quality.
  1. Select AUX inputPress AUX/OPT on the transmitter.AUX indicator: blinking red.
  2. Check the source outputLook for XLR, 6.35 mm, RCA, or 3.5 mm output ports.
  3. Choose your outputSelect the matching option below.

How many XLR outputs will you use?

Dual XLR Output

  1. Use a dual XLR female-to-unbalanced 3.5 mm TRS cable.Wrong cable? It may cause low volume or missing vocals.
  2. Connect the XLR plugs to mixer Output L / R.
  3. Connect the 3.5 mm plug to the transmitter AUX In.

Stereo mixer output recommended

Done: the transmitter audio indicator responds and listeners hear clear stereo audio.
If not:
  1. Check both plugs are in mixer Output L / R.
  2. Unmute the mixer output.
  3. Lower the mixer level.

Single XLR Output

  1. Use a single XLR female-to-unbalanced 3.5 mm TRS cable.Mono output: A single XLR carries mono audio.
    Wrong cable? It may cause low volume or poor sound quality.
  2. Connect the XLR plug to the mixer Output.
  3. Connect the 3.5 mm plug to the transmitter AUX In.

Mono output only

Done: the transmitter audio indicator responds and listeners hear the mono source audio.
If not:
  1. Check the cable is unbalanced 3.5 mm TRS.
  2. Use a mixer output jack.
  3. Unmute the mixer output.

6.35 mm Output

  1. Use the included dual 6.35 mm-to-3.5 mm cable.Wrong cable? It may cause poor sound quality.
  2. Connect the two 6.35 mm plugs to mixer Output L / R.
  3. Connect the 3.5 mm plug to the transmitter AUX In.

Stereo mixer output recommended

DoneThe audio indicator responds and listeners hear clear stereo audio.
If not:
  1. Connect both plugs to Output L / R.
  2. Unmute the mixer output.
  3. If sound is distorted, lower the source level.

RCA / 3.5 mm Output

Choose the matching output. Connect only an audio output to the transmitter AUX In.

Connect RCA Out to the transmitter AUX In with an RCA-to-3.5 mm cable.

3.5 mm Output

Connect 3.5 mm Out to the transmitter AUX In with the included 3.5 mm-to-3.5 mm cable.

If not:
  1. Use an audio output, not an input.
  2. Unmute the source.
  3. Raise the source volume gradually.

Step 03 · Phone / Tablet / Computer

Connect with Bluetooth

TaskPair the audio source with the transmitter Bluetooth input.

Keep your phone close to the transmitter while pairing.

  1. Start pairing: press Phone/Pair on the transmitter. Pairing light: blinking red and blue.
  2. Connect your source: open Bluetooth settings and select the transmitter.
  3. Play audio on the phone, tablet, or computer.
Keep the phone near the transmitter rather than in a pocket while pairing
For a better experience: use a wired audio input for best stability.Bluetooth range: approximately 10–15 m (30–50 ft).

How It Works: Bluetooth sends audio to the transmitter. Listeners receive it through Auracast.
If not

The transmitter not listed?

  1. Turn off Bluetooth on the previous source.
  2. Start pairing again.
  3. Move the devices closer.

Step 04 · Listen

Play audio through your speakers

First: choose and connect your audio source (Steps 2–3).

Requires: One powered speaker with a 3.5 mm AUX or RCA input per receiver. Passive speakers need an amplifier.

  1. Turn on each AuraLink receiver. Its Auracast light turns solid orange when connected.
  2. Connect each receiver to a powered speaker's AUX or RCA input using the matching cable.
  3. Turn on each powered speaker and play audio from your source.

Video: turn on the receivers and connect them to powered speakers.

Done

All three receivers show solid orange; every connected speaker plays the audio.

If not

Light blinking orange? Move the receiver closer to the transmitter.

Light solid, no sound? Check the cable and volume. Check the speaker's AUX setting ↓

Placement

Placement tips

Transmitter

  • Place in the center.
  • Clear line of sight.
  • Up to 330 ft.

Phone

  • Keep next to transmitter.
  • Do not keep in pocket.

Optional expansion

Add powered speakers

To add another powered speaker, connect a compatible AuraLink receiver to its AUX or RCA input and join the same Auracast broadcast. Check for audio at the new speaker.

Receiver reference

Power and use an AuraLink receiver

Charge an AuraLink receiver

Use USB-C and a 5 V, 1–2.4 A power source. The receiver works while charging and plays for up to 20 hours.

  • Blinking red: low battery.
  • Solid red: charging.
  • Red light off: fully charged.

Turns off after 15 minutes without audio? Older firmware can do this even while plugged in. Check the Harmony A3 firmware page for an update.

Play phone audio through an AuraLink receiver
  1. Hold the AuraLink receiver's multifunction button for 3 seconds. Its light blinks red and blue.
  2. On your phone or tablet, select AuraLink in Bluetooth settings.
  3. Play audio through the connected powered speaker.

Audio only: phone calls are not supported. Bluetooth audio takes priority; Auracast resumes when Bluetooth audio stops.

Firmware update

Update Harmony A3

Update the AuraLink receivers and transmitter. The firmware page lists the transmitter as Oasis Aura.

Update AuraLink receivers

Update each receiver separately, one at a time.

  1. Download the Firmware Update Tool.

  2. Connect one AuraLink receiver to your computer.

    Firmware update cable: Use the gray USB data cable included with Harmony A3.

    Mac users: use the same included gray USB data cable.

  3. Run the updater.

    Follow its instructions and keep one AuraLink receiver connected until the update is complete.

After updating, reset each receiver.

Update the transmitter

  1. Download the Firmware Update Tool.

  2. Connect the Harmony A3 transmitter to your computer.

    Firmware update cable: Use the gray USB data cable included with Harmony A3.

    Mac users: use the same included gray USB data cable.

  3. Run the updater.

    Follow its instructions and keep the Harmony A3 transmitter connected until the update is complete.

After updating, reset the transmitter.

PC tool · Optional

Change advanced broadcast settings

Connect the Harmony A3 transmitter to your computer. Open the Firmware Update Tool and select Advanced.

Rename the broadcast
Change the name listeners see when they search for Harmony A3.
Encrypt the broadcast
Add a passcode so only listeners with the correct code can join.
Set the default volume
Adjust the transmitter's default broadcast volume.
Change the audio mode
For listeners using compatible hearing aids, select Hearing Aid Compatible and apply the settings. Continue to the hearing-aid joining guide →
Generate a broadcast QR code
Create a QR code for joining the broadcast.Requires: compatible hearing aids and an app that supports joining by QR code.
Use Group Settings
Apply the same broadcast name and passcode to multiple supported receivers. Learn about Group Settings →

Optional listening method

Listen from hearing aids

Set the Harmony A3 transmitter for compatible hearing aids, then choose how your hearing aids will receive the Auracast broadcast.

First: Open Advanced settings in the Firmware Update Tool. Select Advanced, set Audio Mode to Hearing Aid Compatible, and apply the settings.

Not sure about T or MT?

Look for a T or MT setting in your hearing aid app or paperwork. If you cannot find one, ask your hearing care professional.

Aura C phone hearing aids

  1. Plug Aura C into a compatible USB-C phone.
  2. The phone sends the broadcast to hearing aids already connected by Bluetooth, MFi, or ASHA.

Aura C does not pair directly with hearing aids.

Quick help

Fix common problems

Receiver cannot find the broadcast

Problem: An AuraLink light keeps blinking orange. Possible cause: The transmitter is off, not broadcasting, or too far away. Try: Turn on the Harmony A3 transmitter, confirm its Auracast broadcast indicator is orange, and move the receiver close to it. Check: The receiver light turns solid orange.

Receiver is connected, but the speaker is silent

Problem: The AuraLink light is solid orange but there is no sound. Possible cause: The powered speaker is off, using a different input, or its volume is low. Try: Play audio at the source, check the receiver-to-speaker cable, select the connected AUX or RCA input, and raise the speaker volume carefully. Check: The speaker plays the source audio.

Sound cuts out or is unstable

Problem: A powered speaker's audio cuts out. Possible cause: Distance or obstacles weaken the Auracast signal. Try: Move its AuraLink receiver closer to the Harmony A3 transmitter with clearer line of sight, then play audio again. Check: Playback remains steady.

Receiver turns off during a quiet period

Problem: An AuraLink receiver turns off after about 15 minutes without audio, even while charging. Possible cause: Earlier receiver firmware enables automatic power off. Try: Check the Harmony A3 firmware page for the receiver update. Check: The updated receiver stays on through a quiet period while connected to external power.
